Social Implications of Advertising: A Perceptual Study

Abstract:
Modern advertising is an integral segment of urban industrial civilization mirroring contemporary life in its best and worst aspects. There are negative and positive impacts of advertising upon society in its various forms. The focus of this study is to analyze the perception and attitude of respondents towards social criticisms of advertising. The study concluded that, irrespective of the age categories, the respondents have a negative attitude and perception towards representation of women in advertisements. Older adults including both men and women have stated that women are represented in a sexually-suggestive material and are not equally represented in comparison with the other gender. This chapter has specially emphasized on the respondents? perception towards representation of women in advertisements.
