Role of Work Environment and Attitude of Employees for Experiencing Occupational Stress in Software Industry in India ? An Empirical Approach

Abstract:

Today occupational stress has been an integral part of employment, wherein working conditions are necessitating holistic performance. This is more so in the software industry and hence the present chapter is designed to investigate the elements, which trigger occupational stress in the software industry, ascertain variability of stress feelings by individuals based on their personal differences and analyze the relationship between stress of employees and their work environment in the software industry in India. The study was conducted among middle and low level software employees of various MNC companies across south India. Descriptive design method has been used to investigate occupational stress and its level based on individual differences in terms of gender, age, income, position, etc. The data were collected from 787 employees on the basis of stratified random sampling method, which analyzes causes of stress, work environments and demographical elements of employees using tools such as chi-square and mean deviations. The findings revealed that attitude of employees and work environments play substantial role in the stress level of employees in IT industry in India.
