Development of Smart Greenhouse for Improved Yield in Sugarcane

A.M. Shuruthi, S. Shibu and S. Indhu Prakash

Abstract:

Sugarcane is one of the important crops in India. It is used for sugar production, ethanol blending in petrol and also for producing electricity. In recent days, farmers face many complexes in sugarcane farming due to climate change, improper irrigation, and lack of monitoring. Because of this, a large amount of sugarcane gets wasted every year. To overcome these problems, this project proposes a smart greenhouse system using IoT technology. Sensors are used to monitor temperature, humidity, soil moisture, and light intensity. When the temperature increases, the fan will turn ON automatically. When soil moisture is low, the water pump will turn ON automatically to irrigate the plants. All sensor values are displayed on an LCD and also sent to the farmer’s mobile phone using a mobile application. The system is powered using a solar panel, which makes it suitable for rural areas. This system has to reduce crop wastage and improve sugarcane yield.
