Kalpana Lalwani Rathi and Shashikala. J. Maheshwari
Abstract:
Menstrual health is an essential yet often neglected aspect of adolescent development, especially among girls in special education. Girls with disabilities face unique challenges due to limited cognitive, physical, or emotional capacities. This study focuses on menstrual cycle awareness among girls aged 12–19 years in special education settings. Using a survey method and easy-to-understand formats, the research explores how much these girls understand menstruation, their sources of information, the challenges they face, and the support systems available. The results show that while awareness increases with age, many girls remain uninformed and lack access to menstrual hygiene products. The study highlights the need for inclusive health education that addresses the unique needs of girls in special education.
