New Dimensions in Literature ? Postfeminism & Psychoanalytic Feminism

Dr. S. V. Karthiga and Dr. Soundarya K. R

Abstract:

Psychoanalytic Feminism had taken a long leap in discussing the scenario of both psychoanalysis and feminism. Psychoanalysis contemplates the psyche of women in the current social strata and feminism weighs upon gender and sexual issues faced by women in the society. As psychoanalytic feminism and feminism had been mulling over women-centric issues, this chapter takes a leap towards building a generic basis of gender studies and undoes the marginalization done to men and in turn to women themselves. On this margin, women as well as men fall prey to the cultural and gendered stereotypes and also to the beautification mythologies centred to both genders in the market economy. Not only women are struggling, but also there are men who are misguided and displaced due to the above-mentioned reasons. This study incorporates and highlights the ideologies of both men and women in a poise manner through comparative study of the works of Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf.
