Role of Women in Contemporary Society: Contributions & Challenges
Abstract:
Empowerment is defined as a process related to power transformation, which helps the oppressed person in gaining certain control on their life and make them to involve in the issues that has high impact on them. The empowerment is concerned with the power re-distribution that challenges ideology and domination. It involves in the huge structural and institutional transformation that reinforce and perpetuate gender discrimination. Women empowerment always has its focus on the empowerment of every woman in the nation and brings them independence in every aspect of their standard of living with awareness on their rights and equipment themselves both physically and mentally. It is highly unfortunate to see that women constituting nearly half the population are treated with very low priority in our country. This chapter provides the review on few factors such as education and employment that enables the empowerment and achievement of goal by changing the attitude of the people and brings gender equality. The present chapter is based on conceptual and descriptive method of study.
