Gender Equality through Women Empowerment Strategy-A Conceptual View
Dr.P.B. Beulahbel Bency
Abstract:
Today, the concept of gender equality is at the helm of global affairs with regard to socio-economic development in many developing countries. It is a global subject and addresses on equal opportunities, rights and responsibilities for women and men; girls and boys in a pluralistic society tending towards progression. It does not categorically decipher that women and men are equal but advocate the women empowerment concept as an essential right. Moreover, women empowerment is a powerful driver for rising social equity, lifting efficiency and revitalising a countrys wealth. As leaders, academicians, scholars and employers in this distinct field, one should know there is much more we can do to make a disparity. The gender inequality is a result of unequal power sharing between women and men, exacerbated by ongoing bias, weaknesses in laws, policies and institutions, and social relations that normalise disparity. This strategy sees gender as a power relation. Hence, the work on gender equality therefore aims to concentrate on unequal gender norms that limit women and men, as well as transgender and intersex people. The experience over new decades demonstrates that gender equality, economic growth and growth are mutually reinforcing and significantly related. Hence, empowering women is one of the best ways to uphold economic growth and to achieve peace and protection. The reason being, women who are better educated have healthier and better-educated children, which may decrease dependency burdens and increase savings and keeps the orderliness of socio-economics of a country like India. The researcher intends to conceptually discuss three strategic priorities: i) rising womens voice in decision-making, leadership and peace-building ii) improving womens economic empowerment and iii) finishing violence against women and girls for attaining gender equality in future.
