Size Reduction of Microstrip Antenna with Fractal Ground Plane

S. Jagadeesha, M. Bharath Raj and Nagaraj Shet

Abstract:

In this paper we present a size reduction of rectangular slotted square antenna with Koch fractal ground plane. By etching the patch and ground plane the resonant frequency can be lowered which in turn reduces the size of conventional patch antenna. In this work practical antenna if size 30*40*1.6mm with ground plane of 70*80mm is selected for fabrication of the antenna. By increasing number of iteration of the fractal, the frequency can be lowered up to 1.358GHz. Measured return loss, bandwidth and radiation patterns of the practical antenna are presented.
